Legal insecurity jeopardizes employment generation, investment attraction, reputation and public finances in Honduras

For the past five years h e have believed in Honduras and have invested millions of dollars that have generated thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the country., benefiting Honduran families and diversifying the local economy, particularly in Roatan.

In addition, we are investing hundreds of millions of additional dollars that will provide thousands of additional jobs. in sectors with high potential for professional growth and offering higher incomes, where the average salary of professional Hondurans exceeds 45,000 Lempiras per month.

These investments and jobs, as well as the international reputation of Honduras and the public finances of the State., are at risk due to a procedurally and constitutionally incorrect attempt to repeal employment and investment generating decrees such as the Employment and Economic Development Zones (ZEDE) regime.

We are in all the willingness to dialogue with the competent authorities and find the best avenues for solutions that generate certainty, peace and, especially, more jobs and investment in the country, these being fundamental elements for a country and its population to prosper.

Honduras Próspera Inc. considers that any repeal of laws that do not guarantee the conditions of legal stability provided for in Honduran legislation itself, as well as the acquired rights of all residents and investors in Próspera ZEDE, amounts to an indirect and illegal expropriation. This contravenes the Honduran Constitution itself, the Free Trade Agreement with the United States and other trading partners of Honduras.

‍Actions that do not comply with the applicable legal provisions, The Honduran government, including international treaties, may generate damages in excess of $1.3 billion dollars to the State of Honduras, cause an international controversy, harm thousands of Honduran families, and scare away essential investments for a prosperous future in Honduras.
