André Brings His Passion for Science to La Ceiba Classrooms to Inspire a New Generation of Students

La Ceiba, Honduras, August 2026.— Turning his passion for science into a source of inspiration for other children is the dream that drives André, a talented young Honduran who had the opportunity to take part in an event at NASA and who now hopes to share that experience and spark other students’ interest in science, technology, and space exploration.

He is  André Enoc Mejía, who at just 10 years old became a Próspera Honduras Ambassador last May and, on the 8th of that month, led from Próspera ZEDE a night of space exploration for children throughout Roatán and the country.

Before discovering Próspera, André had already won the People’s Choice Award at the NASA Space Apps Challenge twice in a row, in 2023 and 2024. In November 2026, he will receive the Young Global Icon Award  in Bangkok, Thailand, becoming the youngest of 50 honorees selected from more than 200 nominees worldwide.

Last June, André Enoc spent a week at an international training camp at the NASA Kennedy Space Center in the United States. It was the first time Honduras had been represented at an international space training camp in Cape Canaveral, Florida. On this occasion, André also received support from Próspera and the Government of the Republic of Honduras.

As part of this vision to bring science closer to children in Honduras, and with the support of Próspera Foundation and sponsorship from Próspera ZEDE, André visited schools on Friday, August 14, where he spoke with students and shared his experience at NASA, encouraging them to see that science can also be a path toward achieving their dreams.

André visited two schools and reached more than 100 children, who heard firsthand about the experience André had at NASA and also learned about science and space exploration.

The first visit was at Escuela Rafael Coello Ramos, located in Boca Vieja, from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. André then visited LIONS in Vistas de Satuyé, where he met with students from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Beyond sharing his experience, the visits aimed to show students that great ambitions can begin with a question, a curiosity, or a desire to learn. André represents exactly that possibility: a child who had the opportunity to visit NASA  and now wants to use that experience to inspire others.

The support of Próspera Foundation and Próspera ZEDE makes it possible for this initiative to reach classrooms and for André’s experience to become a source of motivation for Honduran children and young people.

This activity is part of Próspera Honduras’s vision to develop talent and foster interest in science among new generations by creating spaces where students can discover experiences that broaden their view of what they can achieve through education, curiosity, and innovation.

“If one child can dream of reaching NASA, that child can also inspire others to dream of becoming scientists, engineers, researchers, or explorers,” said Alejandra Chang, Vice President of Próspera Foundation.

Through this initiative, André is taking another step toward his vision: bringing science to children in Honduras and showing them that knowledge can open doors to opportunities they may not yet imagine.
